Bomethius

Bomethius is the baroque pop project led by multi-instrumentalist, singer-songwriter Jonathan Hodges. A classically educated violinist, Hodges draws from a diverse cast of compositional and artistic influences to craft a sound that is at once unique and familiar — warm and comforting, and darkly satirical.

The eight-album Bomethius discography includes a regularly rotating carousel of studio and live talent, and most recently includes Jeremiah de la Peña (drums), Dan Kristan (bass), Jeff Tullis (bass), Taylor Vos (electric guitar), Chris Wilson (piano), Phil Hodges (guitar), Chris Stubblefield (trumpet), and Caroline Hodges (lead and backup vocals).

Early Bomethius outings — Intimatitudes (2017) and As Roses (2018) — poignantly explored youth and identity. 2019’s Sweet Nothings grew with the band, melding a more intimate vulnerability and a more defined chamber rock flare, earning it a 10/10 from Atwood Magazine. Bomethius released inadiquit in 2020, Seasons of Limbo in 2021, and Awful, Pompous, & Artificial in 2022.

A defining work within the catalogue, Borrowed Time (2024) marked Bomethius’ label debut with Oakley Avenue Records, and introduced a new studio lineup with Jeremiah de la Peña on drums, Dan Kristan on bass, and Taylor Voss on guitar. It also features several collaborations with Hodges’ sister, Caroline, who lends her haunting, evocative vocals to some of the record’s most poignant tracks.

Tropopause, Bomethius’ second release on Oakley Avenue Records, arrives on June 6th, 2026. Working with the same core of collaborators from the prior record, and following years of diligent live performances, Bomethius has opened a new, louder, and more compact chapter in this nearly decade-long baroque pop project.

Like the meteorological term from which it draws its name, the record represents a threshold in one’s life and the areas on either side of it—both of which are best appreciated from a bird’s-eye view. We may be biased, but Tropopause is best enjoyed on the freshly pressed blue vinyl, which you can only order here — happy listening!
